Liberty Travels to UNC Asheville, Saturday

The Liberty Flames will travel to Asheville, N.C., for a Big South Conference match against the UNC Asheville Bulldogs, Saturday.

Kickoff for the matchup between the Flames (5-8, 1-4) and the Bulldogs (4-8-1, 1-4) is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Greenwood Field.

A Look at Liberty
Liberty (5-8, 1-4) will head out on the road looking to snap a three-game losing streak. The Flames last victory came on the road at High Point, 2-0, on Oct. 7.

Liberty dropped a 3-0 decision to Big South leader Radford in its last outing, Tuesday at Osborne Stadium. 

The Flames have seen nine players score at least one goal this season. Forward Sachem Wilson leads the Flames with three goals. Freshman Nico Bellarde and senior Tim Harbison have scored two goals each for Liberty.

Geovanny Murillo and fellow midfielder Kurt Meyers lead the Flames with three assists apiece.

Jeremy Lee has played every minute in goal for Liberty, so far in 2015. Lee has posted a 1.35 goals-against average and a .705 save percentage. He has recorded three shutouts.

The Flames are in their 15th season under the guidance of Head Coach Jeff Alder. Liberty is 143-109-23 under the Liberty alum.

A Look at UNC Asheville
UNC Asheville (4-8-1, 1-4) will also be looking to snap a three-game losing streak, Saturday. The Bulldogs have not won since upsetting then No. 4 Coastal Carolina, 3-2, at Greenwood Field on Oct. 11.

The Bulldogs fell at William & Mary, 4-2, in a non-conference match, this past Tuesday.

Asheville is led by Zach Joens, who has scored six goals. Andrew Lawrence is the only other Bulldog with more than one goal, having scored two.

Zac Davis has started 11 games for Asheville and logged over 988 minutes between the posts for the Bulldogs. He enters Saturday's contest with a 2.18 goals-against average and .727 save percentage. He has posted two shutouts.

Mathes Mennel is in his first season as the head coach at UNC Asheville.

Liberty leads the all-time series, 24-5-3, between UNC Asheville. The Flames defeated the Bulldogs, 3-1, at Osborne Stadium last season.

  • Liberty is 3-3 on the road this season.
  • The Flames have scored seven goals and given up seven goals in road contests in 2015.
  • Senior team captain Tim Harbison has started 69 consecutive matches for the Flames. The midfielder/defender has been part of Liberty's starting 11 since joining the Flames in 2012.
  • The Liberty-UNC Asheville game is the second game of a doubleheader at Greenwood Field, Saturday. Earlier in the day, the UNC Asheville women's team will host Longwood.

A Look Ahead
The Flames return to Osborne Stadium for their final home two matches of the 2015 regular season. Tuesday, Liberty will host Longwood at 6 p.m. at Osborne.  Then Saturday, Liberty will host Presbyterian at 1 p.m.  Before the game, the program will honor its seniors.
