Lady Flames Fall One Spot in NFHCA Coaches Poll

Week 7 NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll

The Liberty Lady Flames field hockey squad slipped one spot in this week's NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll, falling to No. 9.

The Lady Flames' position in the NFHCA Coaches Poll marks the seventh consecutive week that Liberty has been stationed in the national rankings as the Lady Flames continue to garner recognition.

The 9-4 Lady Flames also boast the No. 9 spot in the most recent NCAA Field Hockey RPI listings.

Liberty is coming off a hard-fought 4-3 loss at home on Thursday against No. 5 Virginia. The Lady Flames struck first in the contest, taking a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute.

The Cavaliers scored in the closing seconds of the first half and rode the momentum to three more unanswered goals in the second stanza to take a 4-3 lead with 15 minutes remaining in regulation.

The Lady Flames fought back with goals by Ashlee Krulock and Serena Barr to close the gap to within one with four minutes remaining. However, the Liberty comeback fell short as Virginia held on to the one-goal advantage till the final buzzer.

No. 9 Liberty shifts its focus to a pair of road matches this weekend beginning with UMass Lowell in Lowell, Mass., on Friday at 3:30 p.m. The Lady Flames will then take on Providence on Sunday at noon in Providence, R.I.
