The Liberty men's tennis squad concluded its play at the ITA Atlantic Regional today in Blacksburg, Va.
The Flames finished the day with an 0-2 record as both Sam Matheson and Egon Samaai fell short in the main draw singles round of 32.
Matheson squared off against Michael Weindl of Old Dominion on Sunday afternoon, falling in straight sets. Weindl claimed the first set, 6-2 and then ousted the Liberty junior in the second set by a score of 6-3. Weindl advanced to the quarterfinal tomorrow morning.
Samaai suffered a similar defeat against Jaan Kononov of UMBC in his round of 32 match. The South Africa native dropped the first set, 6-2, and then was bested in the second set by a score of 6-4.
The Flames will conclude fall play on the weekend of Nov. 6-8 as Liberty travels to Winston-Salem, N.C., to participate in the Wake Forest Invitational.
