The Liberty men's tennis team completed its second day of action at the ITA Atlantic Regional in Blacksburg, Va., on Friday afternoon.
Liberty had six players in the singles main draw coming into Friday and conclude the day's action with two players remaining. Four of Liberty's individuals faced difficult opponents and fell just short. Sam Matheson received a bye into the round of 32 of the singles main draw tomorrow morning. Matheson will face Radford's Jose Manzano tomorrow at 11 a.m.
Egon Samaai was Liberty's lone singles victor of the day as the senior won a three-set match against Nika Dolidze of Penn State.
The South Africa native claimed the first set by a score of 6-4 before falling in the second set, 2-6. Samaai regained his composure and blanked Dolidze in the final set, 6-0. Samaai returns to action against Thomas Pecor of Navy at noon tomorrow.
"Today was a tough day for us," commented head coach Chris Johnson. "We came in a little flat and we can't afford that with the level here. We certainly learned some things that we will work on moving forward. Our team is young and still developing and we still have a lot of tennis ahead of us this fall."
