Liberty to Face No. 11 Coastal Carolina in Conference Road Match

The Liberty Flames will travel to Conway, S.C., Saturday for a Big South Conference contest against the 11th-ranked Coastal Carolina Chanticleers.

Match time is slated for a noon kickoff. The Liberty (5-6, 1-2)-Coastal Carolina (8-1-1, 6-1) match is the first of two games at CCU Soccer Stadium. The Coastal Carolina women's soccer team will host UNC Asheville, later in the day.

A Look at Liberty
Liberty (5-6, 1-2) returns to action Saturday after a six-day break from action.

The Flames fell 1-0 to Gardner-Webb, last Saturday in their last outing. Gardner-Webb scored during the 13th minute and then held the Flames in check. It is the third time this season that Liberty has been shutout.

The Flames enter Saturday's match with nine players having scored at least one goal this season. Forward Sachem Wilson leads the Flames with three goals. Freshman Nico Bellarde

and senior Tim Harbison have scored two goals each for Liberty.

Geovanny Murillo and fellow midfielder Kurt Meyers lead the Flames with three assists apiece. They are currently tied with two other players for fourth in the Big South in the category.

Jeremy Lee has played every minute in goal for Liberty, so far in 2015. Lee has posted a 1.23 goals-against average. He has recorded three shutouts.

The Flames are in their 15th season under the guidance of Head Coach Jeff Alder. Liberty is 143-107-23 under the Liberty alum.

A Look at Coastal Carolina
Coastal Carolina (8-1-1, 3-1) began the week ranked as high as No. 11 in the national polls. The Chanticleers will enter Saturday's match off a 2-1 victory at Campbell on Wednesday.

Coastal Carolina has outscored its opponents, 22-6, with nine Chanticleers scoring at least one goal. Forward Bryce Follensbee, who is tied for third in goals in the Big South, leads Coastal Carolina with six goals. Midfielder Sergio Carmargo, who is tied for the conference lead with four assists, has scored four goals.

Goalkeeper Fernando Pina leads the Big South in both goals-against average (0.60) and save percentage (.857).  He has six shutouts.

The Chanticleers lead the conference in goals against average and have not been beaten at home this season, posting a 4-0 mark at CCU Soccer Stadium.

Head Coach Shaun Docking is in his 18th season at Coastal Carolina. He has led the Chanticleers to a 237-103-27 mark during his tenure and 10 trips to the NCAA Tournament.

Coastal Carolina holds an 18-8-1 advantage in the all-time series with Liberty. Last season, the Chanticleers, who were ranked No. 20 nationally at the time, defeated the Flames, 2-0, at Osborne Stadium on Oct. 18.

Flames News and Notes

  • Saturday's contest will be the second Big South Conference road game of the season for the Flames. Liberty defeated High Point, 2-0, in their only conference road match on Oct. 7.
  • Liberty has scored 14 goals and allowed 14.
  • Nine of Liberty's 14 goals have been scored by seniors in 2015.
  • The Flames are 3-2 on the road this season.
  • Senior team captain Tim Harbison has started 67 consecutive matches for the Flames. The midfielder/defender has been part of Liberty's starting 11 since joining the Flames in 2012.
