The Liberty men's tennis squad travels to Blacksburg, Va., this weekend to compete in the ITA Atlantic Regional hosted by Virginia Tech. This weekend's tournament marks the sixth consecutive season that the Flames have competed in the ITA Atlantic Regional.
Liberty is coming off a strong performance at the ITA All-American tournament in Tulsa, Okla., in the Flames' last outing from Oct. 2-7. Matheson delivered a historic performance for Liberty, finishing the tournament with a 6-1 record and going where no Flame has gone before, to the final round of the qualifying draw.
The Flames have had success at the ITA Atlantic Regional the last two seasons as former Liberty greats Jorge Azuero and Shea Thomas won the program's first-ever regional doubles title in 2013. Last season, Egon Samaai advanced to the round of 32 in the singles main draw, matching Thomas for the furthest singles advancement at the ITA Atlantic Regional in program history.
Following this weekend's event, Liberty will conclude fall play on Nov. 6-8 when the Flames travel to Winston-Salem, N.C., to compete in the Wake Forest Invitational.
