2015 David Toms Intercollegiate Live Stats
Following an unexpected break in their schedule, the Liberty's men's golf team will return to action this weekend when they participate in the 2015 David Toms Intercollegiate.
The two-day, 54-hole event will be contested at the University Club Golf Course in Baton Rouge, La., on Saturday and Sunday. The LSU-hosted event will feature 36 holes of continuous action on Saturday, following by a final 18 holes of competition on Sunday.
The event is named in honor of LSU graduate David Toms, winner of 13 career PGA Tour events, including the 2001 PGA Championship. Toms graduated from LSU in 1989 after earning first-team All-America honors as a junior and senior.
The event will be Liberty's first in nearly two weeks. The Flames were scheduled to compete in the 2015 Tar Heel Intercollegiate on Oct. 3 and 4, but the event was cancelled due to the weather conditions created by Hurricane Joaquin.
The last time the Flames were on the course, Liberty had its best showing of the early 2015-16 season. The Flames captured the program's 25th Division I team title, winning the Rees Jones Invitational by 21 strokes over fellow Big South foe Campbell, Sept. 20-22.
Four of Liberty's starting five in the 55-man field finished inside the top six, helping the Flames post a winning score of 1-over par 865 (295-286-284).
Liberty's Isaiah Logue (74-72-69) and Gabe Lench (74-68-73) finished atop the leaderboard and shared individual medalist honors with a 1-under par 215 final score.
Michael DeMorat finished tied for fourth place with a 2-over par 218 (72-74-72), while Payton Taylor finished tied for sixth place, one stroke behind DeMorat with a 3-over par 219 (75-74-70).
Logue has picked up right where he left off during his first season at Liberty, one that saw him win Big South Freshman of the Year honors. He has a pair of top five finishes and currently leads the Flames with a 71.00 season stroke average (72.52 career stroke average).
Lench (73.50) and Taylor (73.83) currently rank second and third on the team, while DeMorat is fourth on the squad with a 74.83 season stroke average.
Joining Head Coach Jeff Thomas' starting five this weekend in Baton Logue will be sophomore Adam Eineving. The Swedish golfer ranked third on the team with 33 rounds of golf played during his freshman season, finishing the year ranked fourth on the roster with a 76.15 season stroke average.
Golf will get underway on Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. (CST). The shotgun start will have the Flames beginning play on holes No. 4-7 on the par 72, 7,001-yard University Club Golf Course.
