After the Liberty men's and women's cross country teams returned from soggy Spartanburg, Alan York of the Liberty Flames Sports Network caught up with Head Coach Brant Tolsma and freshman Torree Scull.
Despite a waterlogged course and short-handed rosters, both Liberty teams fared well at Saturday's Upstate Invitational/Big South Preview at the Milliken Center. Led by Cameron Francis' runner-up finish, the Flames placed third of 13 teams. Meanwhile, the Lady Flames came in fourth out of 13 squads.
Scull served as the Lady Flames' No. 1 runner on Saturday, placing third overall with a season-best 5K time of 18:39.74. The St. Charles, Ill., native has now been one of the Lady Flames' top two finishers at each of her first two collegiate meets.
Liberty will now prepare for Pre-Nationals, set for Oct. 17 at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky. The first race of the day will begin at 9:30 a.m.
