After placing third at Saturday's Upstate Invitational/Big South Preview, the Liberty men's cross country team is ranked No. 12 in the Southeast Region, as announced today by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
The top three teams in this week's poll hail from the ACC, including No. 1 Virginia, No. 2 NC State and No. 3 Louisville.
A season-high three Big South squads are included in this week's Southeast Region rankings, including No. 8 Campbell, No. 12 Liberty and No. 13 High Point.
Despite four of the Flames' top runners sitting out of Saturday's rain-soaked race in Spartanburg, S.C., Liberty placed third out of 13 men's teams. Sophomore Cameron Francis clocked a personal-best 8K time of 25:30.17 to finish as the race runner-up.
Three other Flames also placed inside the top 25, including Graham Hansel (10th place), Luke Jelen (19th place) and Sam Hibbs (25th place).
Liberty will now prepare for Pre-Nationals, set for Oct. 17 at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer State Park in Louisville, Ky. The first race of the day will begin at 9:30 a.m.
