The Liberty men's tennis squad will send Egon Samaai and Sam Matheson to Tulsa, Okla., to represent the Flames in this weekend's ITA All-American tournament. Liberty last competed in the ITA All-American tournament four years ago on Oct. 3, 2011.
The event, which will last 10 days, involves prequalifying rounds, qualifying rounds and concludes with the main draw event from Oct. 8-12. Samaai and Matheson will first compete in the prequalifying round that will take place this weekend.
Singles quarterfinalists, doubles finalists and consolation champions will receive an automatic entry into the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships on Nov. 12-15, held at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing Meadows, N.Y.
Matheson last competed in the USTA Futures tournament on Friday, falling to Hendrik Jebens of Germany, 7-6(4), 7-6(4).
Samaai saw action last in the Southern Intercollegiate Championships in Athens, Ga., from Sept. 11-14. The South Africa native advanced to the round of 32 after defeating Arsav Mohanty of Mercer in three sets, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3. Samaai then fell to Alejandro Valencia of Kennesaw State, 6-2, 3-6, 3-6.
Following this weekend, Liberty will return to action on Oct. 15 when the Flames travel to Blacksburg, Va., to compete in the ITA Atlantic Regional event.
