Senior defender Hannah Jones has been tabbed this week's Lady Flame of the Week, as announced by the field hockey coaching staff today.
Jones anchored the defense in Liberty's efforts this weekend, leading the red and blue to a 1-1 record against Top 20 opponents. In Friday's 2-1 victory over No. 15 Old Dominion, Jones controlled the defense in allowing just four shots from the Lady Monarchs. The effort helped Liberty halt a two-game losing skid.
On Sunday, Jones scored her second goal of the season in a 3-2 double overtime loss against No. 11 Boston College. Jones played stout defense throughout, blocking several Eagles' attempts on goal. The Pennsylvania native was also the inserter in each of the Lady Flames short corners. Jones' goal came in the 52nd minute when the Keystone State native inserted the penalty corner to Natalie Barr. Barr passed the ball back to the near post where Jones redirected the ball into the back of the net for the equalizer, 2-2.
The Lady Flame of the Week will look to place Liberty back on the winning side of things with a 1 p.m. matchup against Temple in Philadelphia, Pa., on Sunday.
