Liberty Men's and Women's Soccer Teams Earn NSCAA Academic Award

The Liberty Flames men's and women's teams have each been honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) with the association's team academic award for the 2014-15 academic year.

The NSCAA annually recognizes college and high school soccer programs that have excelled in the classroom, in addition to their work on the field. The award recognizes programs with a team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.

A total of 859 soccer teams earned the award nationally for the 2014-15 academic year. Of that total, Liberty was one of 208 schools to have both their men's and women's programs recognized.

The Flames, who posted a 3.0 team GPA, were one of 305 men's soccer teams across all divisions recognized by the NSCAA. The Lady Flames, who achieved a 3.24 team GPA, were one of 554 women's squads to be recognized by the NSCAA.

The Liberty men's soccer team posted an 11-6-1 overall record and recorded a 6-3 mark in Big South Conference play in 2014. For the eighth time in Head Coach Jeff Alder's 14 years, the Flames  posted a double-digit win total.

Meanwhile, the Liberty women's soccer squad completed 2014 with a 14-4-2 overall mark and an 8-1-1 conference record. For the second consecutive season, the Lady Flames reached the Big South final, where they failed to advance on penalty kicks.
