Nick Pierce of the Liberty Flames Sports Network recently caught up with Liberty Men's and Women's Cross Country Head Coach Brant Tolsma for an update on the early stages of the 2015 cross country season.
Liberty has competed in just one meet thus far, the UVa Duals on Sept. 2 in Earlysville, Va. The Lady Flames won two of their three dual competitions that day, while the Flames went 1-2.
Individually, freshman Ednah Kurgat won the women's 4K race and freshman Azaria Kirwa placed second in the men's 4K, earning Big South Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week honors.
The Liberty men's squad has been ranked No. 15 in the Southeast Region in each of the season's first two polls.
The Flames and Lady Flames will return to Earlysville on Sept. 26 for the Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational, where they will square off against some of their top Big South Conference and Southeast Region rival teams. The men's 8K race will begin at 10 a.m., followed by the women's 5K at 10:45.
