The Liberty Flames baseball team will open fall practice, tomorrow.
The 2016 Flames will take to the field under the direction of ninth-year Head Coach Jim Toman as a team for the first time, beginning at 2 p.m. at the Liberty Baseball Stadium.
Fall practice runs through Oct. 31 in preparation for the 2015 campaign. Practices will be held at various times throughout the week. The sessions are open to the public.
The team's annual Scout Day will highlight fall practice. This year's Scout Day is planned for Sept. 30. The 46 players on Liberty's fall roster will be able to showcase their talents for professional scouts.
The Flames' fall practice will conclude with the team's World Series, Oct. 28-30. Two team captains will hold a player draft to pick sides for the three-game series.
Lead by senior shortstop Dalton Britt, Liberty returns 21 players from last year's 33-22 squad. Other key returners from last year's squad include senior pitcher Victor Cole, junior outfielder Will Shepherd and junior corner infielder Sammy Taormina. Head Coach Jim Toman will open 2016 three wins shy of 300. He would become the second coach in school history to reach the milestone, joining program founder and first coach Al Worthington.
