The Flames will kick off their 2015-16 season in a familiar location, as Liberty is scheduled to participate in the 2015 Rod Myers Invitational this weekend in Durham, N.C.

The two-day, 54-hole event, hosted by Duke at the Duke University Golf Club (par 72, 7,136 yards), begins with 36 holes of continuous play on Saturday, followed by a final 18 holes of competition on Sunday.

The Rod Myers Invitational has appeared on the fall portion of Liberty's schedule each of the last three seasons.

The Flames posted a pair of fourth-place finishes in 2012 (301-286-285-872/+8) and 2013 (294-282-293-869/+5).

Liberty looked like it would keep pace with its previous appearances in 2014, opening the event with a 1-under par 287. However, tougher weather conditions shortened the event to 36 holes and Liberty fell down the leaderboard to finish in 11th place with a 24-over 600 (287-313).

Two of the five members who were a part of last year's starting five at this event will once again tee it up this weekend for the Flames.

Sophomore Huston Chandler had his best 18-hole score of 2014-15 at last year's Rod Myers Invitational. He opened with a 4-under par 68 and finished the event tied for 18th place with a 1-over par 145 (68-77).

Fellow sophomore Isaiah Logue did not find the same level of success as Chandler, finishing the event tied for 64th place with a 15-over par 159 (76-83).

East Carolina captured the team title at last year's event, posting a winning score of 15-under par 561 (281-280) to finish seven shots ahead of runner-up North Carolina (278-290-568).

This year's 14-team field features eight programs who finished the 2014-15 season ranked inside the final top 100 Golfstat team rankings.

No. 29 Wake Forest leads the eight-team group, followed by tournament host Duke (No. 42), East Carolina (No. 62), Kansas (No. 67), Penn State (No. 68), Maryland (No. 77), Liberty (No. 79) and UNCG (No. 82).

Head Coach Jeff Thomas, who is entering his 12th season at the helm of the program, will send four sophomores and a freshman out on the course as part of his weekend starting lineup.

Chandler and Logue will be joined by sophomore transfer Michael DeMorat and Payton Taylor, along with freshman Gabe Lench.

Logue is Liberty's top returning player from last season, finishing the 2014-15 season with a 72.78 stroke average and four top 10 finishes. He was named the Big South Freshman of the Year and individually qualified for the NCAA Chapel Hill Regional.

Taylor, who joined Liberty's roster during the spring after transferring from Wisconsin, finished the year with a 73.83 stroke average. Chandler finished his first year at Liberty with a 77.26 stroke average.

DeMorat transferred to Liberty from East Florida State during the summer. He finished his freshman year as the No. 2 ranked national junior college golfer in the country.

The event will begin the collegiate career for Lench, who is currently the No. 41 ranked amateur in the world by the latest World Amateur Golf Rankings. will be provide live scoring throughout the two-day, 54-hole event, with competition set to get underway at 7:40 a.m. on Saturday morning.
