Women's Tennis to Open at Elon Invitational

The Lady Flames tennis squad opens their 2015 fall season this weekend. Liberty will travel to Elon, N.C. to take part in the Elon Invitational. The tournament begins on Friday morning and concludes Sunday.

Liberty last competed in the Elon Invitational a season ago, with the Lady Flames posting strong results. The Lady Flames competed in four finals throughout the singles draws, winning two of the four. Lauren Mabe won the B2 Singles Flight while Valerie Thong and Brittany Yang were given the B1 Singles Flight by default, so they did not have to square off against each other.

The Lady Flames also competed in two doubles finals, winning both. Belen Rivera teamed up with Emily Groeneveld to capture the A2 Doubles Flight by a score of 8-6. Meanwhile, Evangeline Crist and Valerie Thong blanked their opponents 8-0 to claim the B1 Doubles Flight.

Fourth year head coach Jeff Maren returns seven players from last year's roster, including the ones who had success in the 2014 Elon Invitational. Maren welcomes newcomers Audrey Brown, Anna Dollar and Aleksandra Panchenko to this year's roster.
