After a successful season opener, the Liberty Flames men's soccer team takes to the road for a non-conference match with the Tribe of William & Mary. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Martin Family Stadium in Williamsburg, Va.

A Look at Liberty
Led by senior first team All-Big South defender Tim Harbison and senior all-conference players Blessing Tahuona and Sachem Wilson, Liberty welcomes back 13 players who saw significant playing time from last season's 11-6-1 team.  In addition, the Flames return 10 of their 12 goal scorers from 2014.

The Flames (1-0-0) look to build upon a 2-1 victory over Bluefield at Osborne Stadium in their season opener, this past Friday. Midfielder Tahuona and fellow senior Tyler Bullock each scored second half goals, 1:09 apart, in the victory for the Flames. Freshman midfielder Geovanny Murrillo and midfielder Kurt Meyers registered assists in win.

Jeremy Lee played all 90 minutes in goal for Liberty and making three saves in the contest.

The Flames are in their 15th season under the guidance of Head Coach Jeff Alder. Liberty is 139-101-23 under the Liberty alum.

A Look at William & Mary
William & Mary (0-1-0) opens its home schedule at Martin Family Stadium, Tuesday evening. The Tribe was defeated by No. 18 Louisville, 2-1, Friday evening.

Freshman Antonio Bustamante netted William & Mary's lone goal during the 41st minute in the season opener.

Redshirt junior Mac Phillips made the start in goal for the Tribe. He recorded two saves in the contest.

William & Mary and Liberty will be meeting for the fifth time in series history, Tuesday night. The Tribe hold a 4-0-0 record against the Flames. The two teams will be the first time since Oct. 10, 2001.

Season Openers
With its win on Friday at Osborne Stadium, Liberty is 27-14 all-time in season openers and 10-5 during Alder's tenure.

Flames News and Notes

  • Senior defender Tim Harbison has started every game of his Liberty career. The 2014 Big South first team member and team captain has started 57 consecutive matches.
  • Freshman midfielder Geovanny Murrillo made an impact in his first collegiate contest, Friday. The Costa Rica native's pass set up Liberty's first goal of the match by Tahuona.
  • Lee made his 13th career start in goal for the Flames, Friday.
  • Meyers' assist was the second of the redshirt sophomore's career.
  • Last season, Liberty averaged 1.67 goals per game, while allowing 1.27 goals.  The Flames posted six shutouts.
  • The Liberty Flames men's soccer team was honored by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) with the association's team academic award for the 2014-15 academic year. The award recognizes programs with a team grade-point average of 3.0 or higher.
  • Liberty posted 10 or more wins in a season for the eighth time in head coach Jeff Alder's tenure in 2014.

A Look Ahead
Friday, the Flames return to Osborne Stadium to host the N.C. State Wolfpack. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. The contest begins three consecutive home matches for Liberty. The Flames will also host Marshall on Sept. 8 and VMI on Sept. 12 during the homestand.
