Junior midfielder Bethany Barr has been tabbed this week's Field Hockey Lady Flame of the Week. The Lady Flame of the Week is voted on by the field hockey coaching staff for the previous week's contests.
Barr netted one goal and dished out one assist in Liberty's 6-3 season opening victory over James Madison on Friday at the Liberty Field Hockey Field. Barr led the squad with three points, marking the seventh time in her career where she has recorded three or more points in a single contest.
Barr assisted on Liberty's second goal of the contest when she set up Rachel Suter off of the penalty corner, giving the Lady Flames a 2-1 lead. After the Dukes tied the contest at two apiece, Barr delivered a goal of her own in the closing minutes of the first half, providing Liberty with a 3-2 edge heading into the locker room.
With the goal in Friday's contest, Barr ties her twin sister Serena for the seventh most goals in program history with 13. Barr's one assist marked her 17th career assist, ranking third most all-time in program history, just one shy of tying Serena and four shy of tying older sister Natalie for the most assists all-time. The Lurgan, Northern Ireland, native also brings her career points total to 43, placing her sixth all-time in points in program history. Barr sits just one point shy of tying Serena for fifth all-time in points with 44.
Barr looks to build on the strong start as the Lady Flames host Penn on Friday at 4 p.m. at the Liberty Field Hockey Field. Liberty will then play host to Lafayette on Sunday at 1 p.m.
