Field Hockey Hosts James Madison, Friday

The Liberty Lady Flames field hockey squad aims to build off yet another successful season, one which saw Liberty advance to the NCAA Tournament for the second consecutive season in 2014. The Lady Flames kick off the 2015 campaign with a home contest against in-state opponent James Madison at 5 p.m., Friday.

About Liberty
The Lady Flames are led by 2014 NFHCA South Region Coach of the Year, Jodi Murphy. Liberty returns its largest senior class in program history with 10 seniors on the 2015 roster. Among the returnees are two-time NorPac East Offensive Player of the Year Natalie Barr and 2014 NorPac Tournament MVP Sarah Gipe. Barr and Gipe are the program's all-time leading scorers with Barr (40) holding a one goal advantage over Gipe (39).

Quick Facts:
• Liberty posted the second highest scoring average in the country with 3.44 goals per game, last season.
• Murphy is in her fifth season at the helm and has led Liberty to a 53-30 mark during her tenure.
• Gipe was Liberty's leading scorer (19g, 7a, 45 pts) in 2014.
• Senior goalkeeper Mallory Cuccio leads the program with 25 career wins and needs 49 saves to surpass Ann Jefferis for the most saves in program history.

Lady Flames against the Dukes
Liberty will meet James Madison on the field hockey pitch in the regular season for the first time in program history. The two programs have faced each other in preseason bouts before.
Scouting the Dukes: James Madison is coming off of a 12-8 finish in 2014. The Dukes are returning top scorers Loes Stijntjes (14g, 6a, 34 pts) and Taylor West (13g, 7a, 33pts).

Between the Barrs
Barr sisters, Natalie, Serena and Bethany, look to continue their success after accounting for 21 percent of the Lady Flames' goals and 28 percent of Liberty's assists in 2014. The trio rank 1 to 3 on Liberty's all-time assists category as Natalie leads the way with 21.

Home Sweet Home
The Lady Flames finished 9-3 at Liberty Field Hockey Field in 2014. On Oct. 19, 2014, Liberty fell 4-0 to No. 1 North Carolina, snapping a six-game home victory streak. Liberty finished the season winning nine of its last 10 home bouts. The Lady Flames are 26-7 at home in the last three seasons.

Looking Ahead
Following this weekend, the Lady Flames will continue its four-game home stand, squaring off against Penn (Sept. 4), Lafayette (Sept. 6) and Richmond (Sept. 8). Liberty's contest against Penn is set for 4 p.m.
