As the Liberty volleyball team continues its second week of fall practice, LFSN reporter Alan York caught up with 12th-year head coach Shane Pinder and senior middle blocker Jade Vorster to get an update on training.
Vorster, a native of Wellington, Fla., made an immediate impact at the net for the Lady Flames in 2014, her first year since transferring from nationally-ranked Hawai'i. She earned Big South All-Conference second team mention after finishing second in the Big South with 1.18 blocks per set. Vorster set a new program record with 32 solo blocks, while her 145 total blocks from 2014 rank second in Liberty's rally-scoring history.
The Lady Flames are just over a week away from their 2015 season opener. First, Liberty will host its annual Blue-White Scrimmage, next Tuesday at 7 p.m. in the Schilling Center. The team then opens its 2015 regular-season schedule by hosting the 2015 Liberty Invitational presented by La Quinta Inns & Suites, next Friday and Saturday. The Lady Flames will face UNCG on Friday at 7 p.m., before taking on Fairleigh Dickinson and Hampton on Saturday.
