Each of the nine Liberty women's tennis players, along with the entire women's tennis program as a whole, have been recently recognized for their efforts in the classroom by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA).
As a team, Liberty was one of 117 NCAA Division I women's tennis programs named to the 2015 ITA All-Academic Team. The listing is comprised of programs with a cumulative 3.20 or higher grade point average (GPA).
This is the third consecutive year that the women's tennis program has been named to the ITA All-Academic team listing after earning their first-ever nod two years ago.
The Liberty women's tennis program currently has the highest cumulative GPA among Liberty's 20 NCAA Division I programs. The Lady Flames currently have a cumulative 3.65 GPA, bolstered by a 3.79 team GPA during the 2014-15 academic year.
Additionally, Evangeline Crist, Emily Groeneveld, Mariely Hassey, Maria Khval, Lauren Mabe, Belen Rivera, Valerie Thong, Nicola Wellman and Brittany Yang were each named to the 2015 ITA Scholar-Athlete team.
To be eligible for the ITA individual listing, a student-athlete must by a varsity letterwinner, have a 3.50 or higher GPA for the current academic year and have been enrolled at the institution for two semesters.
Hassey, Mabe, Rivera and Thong are making their second appearance on the ITA Scholar-Athlete team after earning a spot on last year's listing. Yang makes her third consecutive appearance on the ITA Scholar-Athlete team.
