Darrel Jones finished eighth in the men's triple jump at the 2015 USATF Junior Outdoor Championships on Saturday.
Liberty's Darrel Jones closed out a strong freshman season by placing eighth in the men's triple jump at the 2015 USATF Junior Outdoor Championships, Saturday at Hayward Field.
The New York native's best effort on a steamy Oregon afternoon was a 48-4 leap in round three. That enabled Jones to advance to the event finals and put him in eighth place among the 15 college freshmen and high school seniors in the field.
Missouri's John Warren won Saturday's competition and punched his ticket to the Pan Am Junior Championships with a mark of 52-6. Oregon's Nathaniel Moore followed in second place at 52-1.25.
Jones placed third in a trio of Big South events as a freshman, including the indoor triple jump, outdoor long jump and outdoor triple jump. He also came in fourth in the IC4A indoor triple jump competition.
Jones' performance on Saturday closed out another successful year for Liberty track & field, which featured three Big South team titles (men's indoor, men's outdoor and women's outdoor). Jocelyn Williams earned second team All-America honors in the women's hammer, while fellow senior John Sherret was voted a Capital One Academic All-American.
