About the Facility
Hayward Field, which first opened in 1919 as Oregon's football stadium, is one of the most storied track & field venues in the United States. The stadium, which boasts a permanent seating capacity of 10,500, hosted the 2008 and 2012 U.S. Olympic Trials and is slated to do so once again in 2016.

The facility played host to the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships for the third straight year, earlier this month, and is slated to continue hosting the event through 2021. Eugene also recently won the rights to host the 2021 IAAF World Championships at Hayward Field, which will mark the first time the event has ever been held in the United States.

Event Info
The 2015 USATF Junior Outdoor Championships are open to U.S. citizens who are at least 14 years old on the date of competition but who will not turn 20 during 2015. Most of the meet's entrants are high school seniors and college freshmen. For example, the 15-member men's triple jump field includes 11 college freshmen and four high school seniors.

The top finishers in each event will be eligible for selection to Team USA for the 2015 Pan Am Junior Championships, set for July 31-Aug. 2 in Edmonton, Canada.

Jumping with Jones
A native of Monroe, N.Y., Darrel Jones has enjoyed an impressive freshman season for the Flames. Most recently, he placed third in both the long jump (23-4) and triple jump (49-11) at the Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships, achieving season-best marks in both events.

During the indoor season, Jones finished third in the Big South triple jump final and fifth in the long jump. He went on to come in fourth in the triple jump at the IC4A indoor championship.

After just one season as a Flame, Jones already ranks No. 4 on Liberty's all-time indoor triple jump list at 49-5.75 and No. 6 on the Flames' outdoor triple jump list at 49-11.

Checking Out the Competition
The men's triple jump field is headlined by a trio of college freshmen, all of whom sailed past 52 feet in 2015. Florida's KeAndre Bates (53-10.5 season best) placed seventh at the 2015 NCAA Division I Indoor Track & Field Championships. Meanwhile, Missouri's John Warren (52-5.5) and Oregon's Nathaniel Moore (52-4.5) came in 11th and 13th, respectively, at the 2015 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships.

Moore won the men's triple jump at the 2014 USATF Junior Outdoor Championships, followed by Bates in third place and Warren in fourth.

Familiar Faces
Jones will see some familiar faces on the runway on Saturday, including a pair of fellow New Yorkers in Albany's Devon Willis (Schenectady) and Arkansas' Rubin Owens (LeRoy). At the 2013 NYSPHSAA state meet, Willis was second, Jones fourth and Owens sixth in the boys' triple jump. The following year, Jones took home the title and Owens grabbed runner-up honors.

Many of Saturday's entrants competed at the 2014 New Balance High School Nationals in Greensboro, N.C. Jones placed third in the triple jump that day, trailing only champion Warren and runner-up Bates.

Happy Anniversary!
Saturday will be a special day for Liberty Track & Field Head Coach Brant Tolsma, who will accompany Jones to Eugene. Tolsma and his wife, Nancy, were married 40 years ago, on June 27, 1975.
