Former Liberty Flames infielder Alex Close began his professional career, this week. Close, who who mainly played first base during his four seasons at Liberty, was taken by the Kansas City Royals as a catcher in the 26th round of the 2015 MLB Draft. He has been assigned to the Royals of the Arizona League and seen action in three games.
Close, a four-year starter for the Flames, earned his second selection to the Capital One Academic All-America first team in 2015, becoming the first Liberty baseball player to be named to multiple CoSIDA Academic teams. In addition, Close was named to the Big South All-Conference first team for the second year in a row and was voted to the ECAC All-Star team. The Liberty Flames Sports Network's Nick Pierce had a chance to talk with Close and discuss his draft experience.
