Will Shepherd was named the Coastal Plain League Hitter of the Week.
Liberty outfielder Will Shepherd has been named the Coastal Plain League (CPL) Hitter of the Week for the third week of CPL action (June 8-June 14).
Shepherd, a rising junior at Liberty, finished the week with an outstanding .481 batting average in six games for the Peninsula Pilots. The outfielder recorded five doubles, 13 hits and 18 total bases, all highs in the CPL during the week. He also drove in five runs.
Shepherd was a catalyst for the Pilots, as they posted a 5-1 mark on the week. The outfielder was 5-for-5 on stolen base attempts and scored a league leading 12 runs on the week. The Pilots, based in Hampton, Va., are currently in second in the CPL's East standings with a 13-6 record.
Currently, Shepherd is second in the CPL in runs scored with 19. In 16 games, the Wilkesboro, N.C., native has hit .305 with 13 RBI and nine stolen bases.
