Liberty volleyball 12th-year head coach Shane Pinder announced the Lady Flames' 2015 season schedule today.
2015 Liberty Volleyball Schedule
In-state matchups with VCU and Virginia Tech, along with the team's first trip to Arizona since 2003 highlight Liberty's 2015 volleyball schedule, released today by 12th-year head coach Shane Pinder.
This season, the Lady Flames will appear in four tournaments, including the season-opening Liberty Invitational and invitationals at Northern Arizona, Appalachian State and Virginia Tech. Liberty will meet three teams (Coastal Carolina, Hampton and Loyola Marymount) which qualified for the 2014 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship. Eight of Liberty's 2015 opponents won 20 or more matches last season.
The Lady Flames are scheduled to play 11 home matches at the Vines Center, giving local fans many opportunities to see the team in action.
For the first time since 2007, Liberty will open its season at home, as the squad hosts the Liberty Invitational, Aug. 29-30. The Lady Flames will host UNCG, Fairleigh Dickinson and 2014 MEAC champion Hampton.
Liberty begins September with a trip to Flagstaff, Ariz., for the Lumberjack Classic, Sept. 4-5. While in Arizona, the Lady Flames will meet 2014 NCAA Tournament participant Loyola Marymount, Houston Baptist and tournament host Northern Arizona.
Upon returning east, the team heads to Boone, N.C., to compete in the Appalachian State Invitational Sept. 11-12 against Charlotte, Appalachian State and the SEC's Missouri Tigers.
The Lady Flames wrap up tournament play at the Virginia Tech Invitational, Sept. 18-19. Liberty is scheduled to face Chattanooga, Middle Tennessee and the host Hokies while in Blacksburg.
The squad opens the 14-match Big South schedule with a match at defending conference regular-season champion Radford, Sept. 25. It is the fifth season in a row that the Lady Flames and Highlanders will meet in their conference opener.
October opens with three consecutive home matches, including Big South contests against Gardner-Webb (Oct. 2) and UNC Asheville (Oct. 3). The Lady Flames then host VCU on Oct. 6 in their final non-conference match.
After competing at Campbell and High Point on Oct. 9-10, respectively, the Lady Flames return to the Vines Center to host Charleston Southern (Oct. 16) and defending Big South champion Coastal Carolina (Oct. 17).
The Lady Flames travel to South Carolina, Oct. 23-24 for matches at Presbyterian and Winthrop.
A three-match homestand concludes Liberty's home schedule. Liberty hosts Radford on Oct. 30 before facing High Point, Nov. 6 and Campbell, Nov. 7. The team will honor its seniors before the Nov. 7 match versus Campbell.
Liberty concludes the regular season with a trip to UNC Asheville and Gardner-Webb, Nov. 13-14.
The 2015 Big South Volleyball Championship will be hosted by High Point in High Point, N.C., Nov. 19-22. The winner of the conference tournament receives the Big South's automatic qualifying bid to the 2015 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship.
The 2015 NCAA Division I Women's Volleyball Championship is scheduled to begin on Dec. 4.
