The Liberty Flames men's tennis team has been ranked among the top teams in the Atlantic Region, as the final ITA rankings were released yesterday.
For the second-straight year, the Flames earned their highest year-end regional ranking in program history, claiming the No. 8 spot in the Atlantic Region. Last season, Liberty garnered the same year-end ranking in the region.
The Flames have been ranked three times in the year-end regional ranking in program history, all coming in the past six years. In 2010, Liberty concluded the year ranked No. 10 in the Atlantic Region rankings.
The Flames finished 2015 with a program-best 6-2 mark in Big South Conference play and a 14-10 overall record. Head Coach Chris Johnson team's mark in Big South action led to the Flames garnering the No. 2 seed for the Big South Men's Tennis Championship, the team's highest seed in program history. In addition with 14 victories, Liberty posted double-digit wins for the seventh consecutive season.
Sophomore Sam Matheson was named to the 2015 Big South All-Conference team in singles after recording a 15-7 overall record and conference-best 7-1 mark in No. 2 singles. Meanwhile, Johnson was selected as the 2015 Big South Men's Tennis Coach of the Year.
