1. This weekend's three-game series will close out the 2015 regular season for each team. High Point and Liberty have both qualified for the Big South Baseball Championship which
begins Tuesday at John Henry Moss Stadium in Boiling Springs, N.C.

2. Liberty enters the final three games of the regular season with a 32-19 overall record and a 15-6 mark in Big South Conference play. Liberty has a RPI of 35 in the latest NCAA report through games of May 13.

3. Currently, the Flames are in third place in the Big South standings. Liberty has already clinched a spot in the 2015 Big South Baseball Championship, next week.

4. Tuesday, Liberty defeated Maryland, 7-6, in College Park, Md. in its final non-conference game of the regular season.

5. Liberty and High Point will be meeting in a regular season series for the second straight year at the Liberty Baseball Stadium. Last year, the Flames swept a three-game conference set from the Panthers, March 21-23.

6. Friday night, the eight seniors on the Liberty roster will be honored.

Player Notes
• 1B/P Alex Close was named to the 2015 Capital One Academic All-District 3 team, this past Thursday. Close was selected to the 2015 Capital One Academic All-America first team, becoming one of two Liberty baseball players to ever be named to the team.

• Close leads the Flames with 23 multiple-hit games and is among the Big South Conference leaders in hits, runs scored, RBI, doubles, total bases and on base percentage.

• Close had two hits, including his fifth home run of the year, in Liberty's 7-6 win over Maryland, Tuesday.

• His home run was the second of back-to-back home runs by the Flames at Maryland. SS Dalton Britt hit  the first, a one-out, two-run home run. The home run was Britt's fifth of the season.

• Britt posted his 17th multi-hit game of the season with two hits in the Liberty win, Wednesday.

• LHP Jared Lyons struck out a career-high 11 batters in 7-5 win at Coastal Carolina, Friday. Lyons pitched eight innings to run his record to 8-1 on the year.

• Lyons leads the Big South in ERA (1.48), complete games (3), shutouts and opponent batting average (.182). He ranks third in innings pitched (85.0) and is tied for fourth in strikeouts (86).

Matt Pennington won the third time in as many starts at Maryland on Tuesday. The senior pitched 6 2/3 innings in the 7-6 victory. He struck out a career-high six batters.

• Pennington was one of three Liberty student-athletes to receive the prestigious George A. Christenberry Award for Academic Excellence presented by the Big South Conference to the male and female student-athlete who attain the highest GPA during their college careers.

• DH Andrew Yacyk is second on the Flames with 18 multi-hit games. Yacyk had two hits, a double and two RBI in Liberty's 7-5 victory over Coastal Carolina, Friday.

• Yacyk ranks sixth in the Big South in RBI in conference games only. 19 of the sophomore's 25 RBI have come during Big South games.

• RHP/OF Ashton Perritt recorded his second save of the year in 7-6 win at Maryland, Tuesday.

• OF Will Shepherd hit his fourth home run of the season, Monday at Coastal Carolina.

• Shepherd leads Liberty and is tied for fifth in the Big South with 16 stolen bases.

• LHP Shawn Clowers leads the Big South Conference and is 11th in the nation in wins with an 9-4 record. He leads the Flames with 18 appearances.

• C Becker Sankey  is among the Big South leaders in several categories. The catcher enters the weekend fifth in home runs, ninth in total bases and fourth in slugging percentage.

• LHP Victor Cole enters the weekend sixth in ERA, tied for eighth in innings pitched, 10th in strikeouts and third in opponent batting average.

• OF Nick Paxton has hit .333 over his last 10 games, raising his batting average 12 points. The senior had at least one hit in each of Liberty's three games at Coastal Carolina, this past weekend.

• Saturday, Paxton collected two hits, a double and a RBI, scoring twice at Coastal Carolina.

Recognizing the Seniors
• Friday evening, Liberty baseball and the athletics department will recognize the eight seniors on its roster who are playing in their last regular season games in a Flames uniform at Liberty Baseball Stadium this weekend.

• Senior players Alex Close, Shawn Clowers, Clay Keranen, Jared Lyons, Nick Paxton, Matt Pennington, Ashton  Perritt and Becker Sankey will be honored for their efforts.

• During their time at Liberty, this group helped the Liberty program reach new heights, as the Flames played in back-to-back NCAA Regionals for the first time in program history.

• In addition, managers Matt Cooke, Seth Gossett and Taylor Hibbs  will be recognized.
