Liberty Athletics celebrated another highly successful year of academics, athletics and community service at the fourth annual FLAMESPY Award show on April 27.
After the show, Liberty Flames Sports Network's Alan York had a chance to catch up with some of the evening's award winners, including Liberty men's tennis senior Dillon Segur, who took home the Dr. Jerry Falwell Leadership Award.
Segur led the Flames to a 14-10 season, including a program best 6-2 in Big South action, garnering the program's first-ever No. 2 seed in the Big South Men's Tennis Championship. Segur was named co-captain of this year's squad alongside fellow senior, Jorge Azuero. On the court, Segur was the vocal member of the squad, always cheering on his fellow teammates and trying to pump up the home crowd. Off the field, Segur exuded his leadership in always keeping his teammates on track and helping out when needed.
This season, Segur paced the Flames in doubles play with 12 wins, proving a dominate force from the No. 1 doubles slot. In 2014, Segur and Egon Samaai were named to the Big South All-Conference doubles squad as well as being named the No. 1 doubles flight winners. Segur finished his career with 62 singles wins ranking fifth most in program history, and 67 doubles wins (fourth).
