Madison Kotchey went 2-for-3 on Sunday at Winthrop.
Winthrop scored three runs in the sixth, and the Eagles tossed a combined four-hit shutout, downing the visiting Liberty Lady Flames, 3-0, Sunday at Terry Field.
With the win, Winthrop (25-23, 14-9 Big South) picks up the weekend sweep and extends its overall winning streak to six games. The Lady Flames (27-28) conclude their Big South regular-season schedule with a 12-12 conference record, after their fourth consecutive loss.
Sutton Watson (9-6) earned the victory, tossing the final two innings of the combined shutout, allowing two hits and striking out two. Starter Sara Allen yielded two hits over five innings of work, fanning eight and walking six.
Abby Tincher (2-7) drew the loss, yielding three runs (one earned) on four hits, with seven strikeouts and two walks.
Four different Eagles had one hit apiece. Maddie Antone recorded the only extra-base hit for either team, a two-run home run. Tara Loken went 1-for-2 with one RBI.
Madison Kotchey batted 2-for-3 for the Lady Flames, while Katie Han and Blair Lawrence both went 1-for-3.
Megan Robinson drew a leadoff walk in the second inning, and Kotchey followed by singling to center. Sara Allen fanned the next three batters, keeping the Lady Flames off the board. Tincher then struck out the side during a 1-2-3 Winthrop second.
Shayna Covington reached second on a two-out error in the bottom of the third. Antone then lined out to right, ending the stanza.
Kassidy McCoy walked with one out during Liberty's fifth time at bat. After striking out Lawrence, Sara Allen issued a free pass to Alexia Taylor. A walk to Tori Zavodny loaded the bases for Kelby Allen, who grounded out to short, leaving the bases filled.
Watson entered the circle in relief of Sara Allen to start the sixth frame. Han lined a two-out single though the left side before Watson got Jamie Crisp to pop out to short.
Tincher retired eight straight Eagles, spanning the third through sixth innings.
The Eagles went ahead with a three-run sixth. Covington reached on an error before Antone broke the scoreless tie, hitting a two-run blast to right center. Loken later hit an RBI single to center, making it 3-0. A walk to Watson filled the bases before Zharne Glover fouled out.
Lawrence gave Liberty a seventh-inning baserunner, beating out a bunt single with one out. Watson completed the combined shutout, as Taylor flied out and Zavodny struck out.
Liberty wraps up its 2015 regular-season schedule on Tuesday at Marshall. The Lady Flames will take on the Thundering Herd in a single game in Huntington, W.Va., with first pitch set for 2 p.m.
