Liberty Seeded 2nd for Big South Women's Lacrosse Championship

After concluding the regular season this afternoon, the Liberty lacrosse team shifts its focus to the 2015 Big South Women's Lacrosse Championship which begins with the quarterfinals on Tuesday.

The Lady Flames enter the tournament as the No. 2 seed, the highest seed in program history, and will host No. 7 seed Gardner-Webb on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Liberty finished the regular season with a 7-10 overall mark, including a program-best 5-2 record in conference play. The Runnin' Bulldogs collected the first win of their inaugural season earlier this afternoon, defeating Presbyterian by a score of 13-12. Gardner-Webb improves to 1-15 on the season with a 1-6 mark in Big South play.

Liberty and Gardner-Webb met in Boiling Springs, N.C., on April 10 when the Lady Flames downed the Runnin' Bulldogs, 23-4. Liberty's 23 goals marked the most goals in a single game in program history.

Winthrop finished the Big South season with a 6-1 record to win the outright regular season title and the right to host the semifinals and the finals. The Eagles will take on No. 8 seed Presbyterian (0-7 Big South) in the quarterfinals at 2 p.m.

Coastal Carolina captured the No. 3 seed after finishing third in the standings with a 5-2 mark. The Chanticleers will host No. 6 seed Campbell, which concluded the regular season with a 2-5 league record. The contest will be played on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

High Point enters the tournament as the No. 4 seed following its 5-2 Big South season, and will host No. 5 seed Longwood (4-3 Big South) Tuesday at 6 p.m.

The winner of the Liberty vs. Gardner-Webb contest will face the victor in the No. 3 seed Coastal Carolina vs. No. 6 seed Campbell contest in the second semifinal match on Friday at 7 p.m. in Rock Hill, S.C.,

Liberty defeated both programs earlier this season at home (Coastal Carolina – W/ 18-8 on April 6; Campbell – W/ 21-11 on April 4).

The quarterfinals and semifinals will be broadcast live on the Big South Network, while Sunday's championship contest will be carried live on ESPN3 at 1 p.m. The Big South champion receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Women's Lacrosse Championship.
