Liberty Men's Basketball Head Coach Ritchie McKay has announced the signing of his first recruit, inking Lovell Cabbil to a national letter of intent to attend Liberty University for the 2015-16 academic year.
"We're very excited about Lovell signing with our family," McKay stated. "I really think he's got a bright future as a Liberty Flame! He combines the ability to score in a variety of ways with quickness and the athleticism to be an excellent defender. In addition to his on-court abilities, he is a terrific person."
The all-time scoring leader at Mansfield Summit High School, Cabbil (G, 6-3, 155, Arlington, Texas) paced the Jaguars with 21.4 points, 4.6 assists and 3.7 steals per game during his senior year. After earning district Co-MVP and all-area honors, Cabbil guided his team to a 21-7 record and its second straight 5A regional semifinals appearance. Cabbil is one of just two four-year letter winners in program history, having led his team in scoring his entire tenure.
A quiet leader with a strong shooting ability, Cabbil shot 81 percent from the foul line and 41 percent from three-point land, this past season. Currently ranked as a top 40 prospect in Texas and a national recruit by TexasHoops.com and RivalsHoops.com, Cabbil also had interest from other schools including Nebraska, San Diego, LIU Brooklyn, Saint Louis, UT Arlington, Louisiana, Lamar and Southern.
