Maren Inks Anna Dollar in 2015 Recruiting Class

With the completion of the 2015 spring season, Liberty Women's Tennis Head Coach Jeff Maren has announced the signing of Anna Dollar to a National Letter of Intent. Dollar will enroll at Liberty for the 2015-16 academic year.

Born in Haifa, Israel, Dollar is the third of five children. As a child, Dollar and her family moved to Kiev, Ukraine where she became fluent in Russian and began playing tennis. During her time in Ukraine, Dollar was coached by world renowned instructor, Svetlana Medvedev, mother of former Top 10 player and French Open finalist, Andrei Medvedev.

Dollar moved to Lancaster, Pa. in 2013, where she attended Spooky Nook High Performance Academy. In addition to her training in Pennsylvania, she attended regular practice sessions in Florida with Nick Bollettieri. She currently trains weekly with Nick Saviano at his Academy in Plantation, Fla. Saviano is the coach of WTA top 20 players Sloane Stephens and Eugenie Bouchard.

Dollar is a Top 100 senior and is ranked the No. 2 prospect from Pennsylvania, but has spent most of her career competing in other countries in tournaments on the ITF circuit. Dollar's tournaments include the Costa Rica Bowl and the Panama Bowl. While at the Costa Rica Bowl, Dollar reached the singles quarterfinals and the doubles semifinals. In the Panama Bowl, Dollar was a singles quarterfinalist as well as a doubles finalist.

Dollar's highest ITF world ranking is No. 310. Her United States ranking is as high as No. 84 by tennisrecruiting.net. While living in the Ukraine, Dollar achieved as high as the No. 6 ranking in the country in both 16U and 18U, earning two titles on the Tennis Europe tour.

Dollar has competed in many ITF sanctioned tournaments in her young career. In 2014, Dollar competed at the ITF Grade 1 Mundial Championships in Colombia, reaching the doubles semifinals. That very same year, Dollar competed in the ITF International Pascuas Bowl in Paraguay, reaching the quarterfinals in singles and the semifinals in doubles play. At the ITF Canadian Junior Championships in 2014, Dollar reached the singles semifinals. In 2013, at the ITF African Championships in Zimbabwe, Dollar reached the singles finals, defeating Winthrop's Big South Freshman of the Year award winner Mariana Humberg along the way.

While in the states, Dollar reached the doubles semifinals and the singles quarterfinals in the ITF International Grass Court Championships in Pennsylvania in 2014. In that same year, Dollar was a doubles finalist at the Delray Beach ITF Championships.

Dollar was being recruited by top tennis schools such as Baylor (currently ranked #8), Yale (#74), University of San Diego and Texas A&M (#9).

Why did you choose Liberty?
"I considered the geography of the universities that contacted me. My parents live overseas most of the time, so I wanted to be near relatives. I also wanted to find a team with good coaches that are committed to my development as a player. Liberty University is the largest Christian university in the world, and I feel comfortable in this Christian atmosphere."

What do you like most about Liberty?
"Liberty is serious about their sports and they invest a lot into their athletes. Liberty has world-class facilities, and they are constantly building and expanding. They are very progressive and high tech. World-famous and influential speakers come to address the student body on a regular basis. Liberty offers so many degrees and since I don't know for sure what I want to major in, I feel I have a lot to choose from."

What are your goals for your freshman year?
"Academically, I really don't know what to expect. I haven't been in a classroom since 7th grade. I travel a lot and do my school online. With tennis I think it will be fun to be on a team and be able to practice together, travel together, and compete together. I want to help my team climb in the rankings, win the conference, and also compete in both the national and individual tournaments in May."

Maren on signing Dollar:
"Anna will fit very well into our program.  She has the drive and the talent to succeed at a high level, and has a demeanor that will help to grow our family atmosphere.  We are very excited to have Anna join us this fall."
