Liberty Head Men's Soccer Coach Jeff Alder announces the signing of five student-athletes for the upcoming 2007-08 academic year.

Liberty Head Men's Head Soccer Coach Jeff Alder has announced the signing of five new student-athletes for the upcoming 2007-08 season. 

"Coach [Dean Short] and I feel we have identified and signed a class that will be great ambassadors for the university on and off the field of play," stated Alder. "All of these players come from extremely competitive club and Olympic Development Program (ODP) environments which should allow the transition to be smooth from high school to college. We have been impressed with the character displayed by each individual during the recruiting process and feel our current players will do a great job of embracing the new Liberty Soccer Family members."

Darren Amoo (F/MF, Kanda, Acra, Ghana) will enter the 2007-08 academic year at Liberty after a standout club career in his native country of Ghana. The 5-9, 160 lb., forward was a member of his nation's U-17 team in 2005. A graduate of Presbyterian Boys Secondary School, Amoo played for the U18 Colts League's Red Lobster FC last season. After scoring 10 goals and three assists, he was named the team's player of the year.

Brian Edman (D, Spring, Texas) went undefeated as a member of the Klein High School team. During the 5-11, 155 lb., defender's two varsity seasons, the Bearkats went 44-0-4. In his senior year, he was a member of a defense which posted 15 shutouts in 20 games and allowed five goals. As a junior, the Bearkats' had 18 shutouts in 29 contests. Edman also was selected as his junior varsity team MVP in his sophomore season.

Paul Gilbert (GK, Murfreesboro, Tenn.) was a member Tennessee 88' Olympic Development Program State team and was a four-year letterwinner at Blackman High School. The 6-0, 193 lb., goalkeeper also captained the Tennessee United 88' club team for team for two seasons. In addition, the keeper was a guest player with the Brentwood Fusion soccer club at both the Disney Showcase and Raleigh Shootout.

Chris Phillips (MF/D, Brownsburg, Ind.) enters his first year of collegiate soccer off a successful prep career. The 5-11, 170 lb., Phillips was rated among the top five defensive players in Indiana last season. The defender was a two-time all-state and all-conference selection. He was also a member of his state's Olympic Development Program for four seasons. Phillips captained his club team for four years and high school team for two.

Thad Taylor (MF, Spring, Texas) brings a strong prep resume with him as he begins his first season of college soccer in 2007. A three-time letterwinner at Klein High School, the two-year midfield starter was named all-district in 2006 and National Soccer Coaches of America Association Region VI All-Region in 2007. In 2005, he was a member of the Bearkats' Texas 5A State Championship team. Taylor was also a member of the Houston Texans FC 87-88 Red team. The Texans won 2002, 2003 and 2006 Texas State Championships.
