The Liberty men's tennis squad takes to the road tomorrow as the Flames travel to Rock Hill, S.C. to take on the Winthrop Eagles at 1 p.m.
Liberty enters the contest with an 11-8 overall record, including a Big South mark of 4-2. Winthrop boasts an 11-5 record, including a perfect 4-0 in Big South action.
The two squads will meet for the 25th time on the tennis courts. The Eagles lead the all-time series, 23-1. Winthrop downed the Flames in the most recent outing, 5-2, on March 22, 2014 in Lynchburg, Va.
Liberty enters tomorrow's match having most recently defeated Campbell by a score of 4-3 yesterday in Lynchburg, Va. The Flames' victory catapulted them into second place in the Big South standings with a 4-2 conference record, only behind Winthrop. Liberty's victory also notched a perfect 8-0 record at home this season.
Sophomore transfer Sam Matheson paces the Flames with a strong 13-6 singles record on the season. The New Zealand native has also won five consecutive singles matches.
Egon Samaai sits only one game behind Matheson, as the South African junior boasts a 12-7 singles record.
Diego Castano and senior Dillon Segur lead the Flames in doubles play, both tied with a doubles record of 11-8 on the season.
Winthrop enters the contest having dropped its most recent match yesterday in a 5-2 decision at South Carolina State. The Eagles are first in the Big South standings with a perfect 4-0 conference record. In the Eagles most recent conference match on March 22, Winthrop handed Gardner-Webb a 6-1 defeat in Rock Hill, S.C.
The Flames return to action next Wednesday when Liberty travels to Williamsburg, Va. to take on William & Mary at 4 p.m.
