LibertyFlames.com continues its spring practice coverage today with LFSN reporter Alan York visiting with redshirt senior running back Desmond Rice.
Following a banner season in 2013, Rice suffered a knee injury during Liberty's last workout of the 2014 spring practice schedule. The Lynchburg, Va., native was granted a medical redshirt by the NCAA, allowing him to return for the 2015 season.
In 2013, Rice earned All-Big South second-team honors after a career year in which he rushed for 967 yards and 16 touchdowns. He ranked second in the Big South in yards per rush (5.2) and his 16 rushing touchdowns were the second-highest single-season total in Liberty's program history.
With Rice's return, Liberty has a pair of experienced running backs in the backfield. In Rice's absence, rising senior running back D.J. Abnar led Liberty in 2014 by rushing for 1,289 yards and 15 touchdowns.
Liberty held its second workout of the week today from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Williams Stadium. The Flames will hold the same practice schedule tomorrow, before holding a closed scrimmage on Saturday afternoon (Noon to 2:45 p.m.).
LibertyFlames.com will continue its coverage of spring practice tomorrow when York visits with junior linebacker Nick Newman.
