After winning the 2015 Big South indoor team title, the Liberty men's track & field team is favored to capture the 2015 Big South outdoor championship as well.
The Liberty men's outdoor track & field team was picked to win its ninth consecutive Big South Conference title, as voted upon by the league's head coaches. Meanwhile, the Lady Flames were voted second behind defending champion Coastal Carolina.
Head Coach Brant Tolsma's men's squad has captured eight straight Big South outdoor championships and 19 titles in the meet's 21-year history. This year's team received six of the eight first-place votes and 54 total points for the No. 1 spot in the poll.
Coastal Carolina, which has recorded five consecutive Big South runner-up finishes, earned the two remaining first-place votes and totaled 48 points for second place in the poll.
Championship host High Point (third place, 38 points), Campbell (fourth, 36), Gardner-Webb (fifth, 23), Winthrop (sixth, 15) and UNC Asheville (seventh, 10) round out the men's poll. Only seven men's teams will compete at the 2015 Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships, which marks the fewest entrants at this meet since 2003.
On the women's side, Coastal Carolina is favored to win its fourth championship in the last five years. The Chanticleers garnered eight out of nine first-place votes and 80 total points.
The Lady Flames claimed a single first-place vote and 73 points for second place in the poll. After winning the 2013 Big South title in Lynchburg, Liberty placed second to Coastal Carolina a year ago.
High Point was picked third with 55 points, while Campbell and Radford share fourth place in the preseason poll with 52 points apiece.
Charleston Southern (sixth place, 30 points), Gardner-Webb (seventh, 27), Winthrop (eighth, 23) and UNC Asheville (ninth, 13) wrap up the women's poll.
The Flames and Lady Flames officially opened the 2015 outdoor season at the Coastal Carolina Invitational on March 13-14.
The 2015 Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships will be contested May 14-16 at Vert Stadium in High Point, N.C. It will mark the first time High Point has ever hosted the meet and the first time it has ever been held in May.
The Big South Outdoor Track & Field Championships will return to North Carolina for the first time since 2000, when UNC Asheville hosted the event.
