Jared Lyons has been named the Big South Pitcher of the Week
Liberty left-hander Jared Lyons has been selected the Big South Conference Pitcher of the Week for games played March 16-22.
Lyons fashioned a three-hit shutout, the first of his career, leading Liberty to a 3-0 victory over Radford, Sunday. The left-hander handcuffed the host Highlanders, allowing three baserunners in going the distance for the first time in his Liberty career.
The senior from Yorktown, Va., was perfect through the first 5 2/3 innings, before a two-out double in the bottom of the sixth. The Highlander was the only runner Lyons allowed to reach second base in the contest.
With the win, Lyons runs his record to 3-0 on the year. He gave up three hits and struck out 10, tying a career high. He did not walk a batter, the first time he has not issued a free pass in a start, this season.
It is the first time Lyons has been named the Big South Pitcher of the Week and the second Flames pitcher honored with the award in 2015. Liberty junior left-hander Victor Cole received the award for the week of Feb. 23-March 1.
Lyons, Cole and the rest of the Flames will host the Duke Blue Devils at the Liberty Baseball Stadium, tomorrow. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
