Lady Flames Begin Five-Game Road Trip in California

After playing its first five games of the season at home, the Liberty lacrosse squad will take to the road for five consecutive contests, beginning Monday in California. The Lady Flames (1-4) will face off against the Southern California Trojans (2-2) at McAlister Field in Los Angeles, Calif. at 6 p.m. ET.

Series History Versus the Trojans                    
Monday's contest will mark the first time that these two programs have squared off on the pitch. The Trojans are in their third year of play as a Division I program, while the Lady Flames are in their sixth.

Previewing the Lady Flames                             
Liberty hopes to bounce back from a tough 13-10 loss against Richmond on Feb. 28 at the Liberty Lacrosse Field. The Lady Flames fought back from a four-goal deficit, pulling to within one. However, the Spiders surged once more, extending the lead back out to three for the 13-10 final score.

On the season, Liberty is seeing veteran poise from its young freshman Katy Pridemore. The Vero Beach, Fla., native was recently named the Big South Freshman of the Week for the second time in four weeks. The standout freshman leads the Lady Flames attack with 19 points on the season, including a team-high tying 14 goals and team-best five assists.

Sam Struss enters the contest one point behind Pridemore. Struss currently has 18 points, including 14 goals of her own to tie Pridemore. She also has tallied four assists on the year. Redshirt senior and co-captain Nina Dunay has netted nine goals and dished out two assists for a points total of 11. Michaela Rich rounds out the double-figure points leaders with 10, with six goals and four assists.

Juliann Elmer has received the call in net in each of the five contests so far. The junior goalkeeper leads the nation in both saves (80) and saves per game (16).

Previewing the Trojans
USC is off to a 2-2 start for the third consecutive season entering Monday's showdown. The Trojans began the season with back-to-back losses against Northwestern and Stony Brook. However, USC has collected two consecutive wins, with the most recent victory coming against conference foe Fresno State, 17-6, at McAlister Field on Feb. 24.

The Trojans have two players in double-figures in the points category, Caroline de Lyra and Michaela Michael. De Lyra leads the team with 17 points on 10 goals and seven assists, while Michael enters the match with 13 points including nine goals and four assists.

Gussie Johns has been the starter in goal in all four contests, notching 10 saves and allowing 29 goals. The freshman allows only 7.77 goals per game despite her .256 save percentage.

Looking Ahead
Following Monday's contest, the Lady Flames will conclude their California swing on Friday at San Diego State. The first draw is scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. ET. at the Aztec Lacrosse Field in San Diego, Calif.
