Liberty men's basketball junior Theo Johnson has been named Big South Player of the Week for games played Feb. 23-28. The announcement was made by the conference office earlier this afternoon.
Johnson closed out the week averaging 22 points in two games. The guard/forward went 10-of-20 (50.0 percent) from the field and 24-of-31 (77.4 percent) at the foul line during the span. Johnson is the second Flame to earn weekly conference honors, this season. Freshman guard Peter Moller earned freshman of the week accolades on Dec. 15.
Johnson began his week with a career-high 26 points in an 80-69 upset win over Radford on Thursday. The California native's 26 tallies marked the most points scored by a Flame, this season. The point total surpassed his previous career high of 19 points, which he achieved inside Radford's Dedmon Center in the Flames' 84-76 loss to the Highlanders on Jan. 24. Johnson racked up most of his points at the foul line (14-of-18), where he single-handedly made more shots than the Highlanders took (6-of-12).
On Saturday, Johnson followed up the performance with 18 points in Liberty's 95-77 loss to UNC Asheville. Johnson paced the Flames' offense on Senior Day, going 4-of-10 from the field and 10-of-13 at the charity stripe.
