After the Lady Flames' narrow 15-11 loss to open the season against Virginia Tech, senior attacker Sam Struss and freshman midfielder Katy Pridemore have captured both of the weekly Big South honors. Struss has been named the Choice Hotels Big South Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Week while Pridemore has been selected as the Crons Brand Freshman of the Week, as announced by the league office for contests played from Feb. 2-8.
Struss is the first Lady Flame in program history to garner the Big South Offensive Player of the Week award. In Friday's contest against the Hokies, Struss posted a career high-tying five goals in the 15-11 loss. It was the senior's 10th career game scoring three or more goals in a single game. The Evans City, Pa., native also chipped in a pair of ground balls during the match.
Pridemore is the first Lady Flame to collect the Crons Brand Freshman of the Week honor since Olivia Becker on April 7, 2014. Pridemore lived up to her much-anticipated start in Friday's match against the Hokies. The Vero Beach, Fla., native notched three goals and recorded two assists for the contest. The freshman capitalized on three of her four shots and also added two draw controls during the competition.
Pridemore is only the seventh freshman in Liberty history to record a hat trick and the first-ever Lady Flame to do so in her first career start.
Liberty (0-1) returns to action this weekend when it plays host to a couple of opponents. On Friday, the Lady Flames square off against the Navy Midshipmen at Liberty Lacrosse Field at 3 p.m. Liberty then turns around on Sunday to compete against Vanderbilt. First draw on Sunday is slated to begin at 12 p.m.
