Lady Flames Picked Fourth in Big South Lacrosse Preseason Poll

The Liberty Lady Flames lacrosse squad has been predicted to finish the 2015 season in fourth place in the Big South women's lacrosse preseason poll. The poll was voted on by the conference's head coaches.

The Lady Flames will look to bounce back from a 2-16 season a year ago, in just the program's second year in the Big South Conference. The fourth place selection is the highest position that Liberty has garnered in its first three years with the conference.

Head coach Kelly Nangle, who enters her second season at the helm of the Lady Flames, looks to blend a mix of experienced returners with a large number of underclassmen. Liberty returns eight starters from the 2014 squad, including team captains and redshirt seniors Morgan Becker and Nina Dunay. The Lady Flames welcome nine newcomers to the squad including highly touted recruit, Katy Pridemore as well as two transfer student-athletes, Eden Bayuk from Columbia College and Ashlyn Altieri from University of Mount Olive.

Two-time reigning league champion, High Point, was chosen as the preseason favorite for the third consecutive year, garnering seven out of eight first-place votes and 63 points. Winthrop received the remaining first-place vote and 52 points for the second-place selection.

Longwood was tabbed to finish third with 49 points, followed by the Lady Flames with 35 points. Coastal Carolina falls in behind Liberty at a close fifth place selection with 33 points, with Campbell on their tracks with 30 points to garner the sixth spot. Presbyterian College (15) and Gardner-Webb (11) round out the remaining Big South preseason poll, coming in seventh and eighth, respectively.

Liberty opens the 2015 season at the friendly confines of the Liberty Lacrosse Field, against Virginia Tech on Feb. 6 at 4 p.m. The Lady Flames will compete in five consecutive home games to begin the season, before hitting the road for the entire month of March.

The 2015 Big South Women's Lacrosse Championship will begin on April 29 and conclude on May 3. The No.1 seed for the tournament will serve as the host for both the semifinals and the title game.
