Liberty senior Meghan Babcock was named CCSA Women's Swimmer of the Week.
Liberty senior Meghan Babcock has been voted CCSA Women's Swimmer of the Week, after posting several standout swims in the Lady Flames' meet at James Madison on Saturday.
Babcock, a native of Pfafftown, N.C., earns her second career CCSA Swimmer of the Week award. She was previously named Swimmer of the Week on Oct. 30, 2013. Babcock is the third Lady Flame to be voted CCSA Swimmer of the Week this season, as junior Kendall Hough earned the award on Oct. 14 and freshman Prudence Rooker was honored on Nov. 4.
During Liberty's meet at James Madison on Saturday, Babcock won the 50 free while also swimming anchor leg on Liberty's winning and pool-record-setting 200 free relay. She clocked a 23.16 split in the 200 free relay, which the Lady Flames won in 1:35.03.
Babcock opened the meet by swimming anchor leg in 22.91 as Liberty placed second in the 200 medley relay with a season-best time of 1:44.50. She then earned victory in the 50 free, swimming 24.00 for her second 50 free win of the season. The senior anchored Liberty's second-place 400 free relay (3:29.62) in 52.20. Babcock later finished second to teammate Hough in the 100 free with a season-best time of 52.05.
The Lady Flames (8-4, 2-1 CCSA) will conclude their regular-season schedule in Wilmington, N.C., next weekend. Liberty is scheduled to compete in a tri meet at UNCW on Jan. 30 at 6 p.m., before swimming in the UNCW Quad Meet the following day at 2 p.m. at the Seahawk Natatorium.
