The Liberty men's tennis team has been picked fifth in the Big South men's tennis preseason poll, as voted on by the conference's head coaches. The Flames garnered one first-place vote and 45 points overall. Coastal Carolina collected four first-place votes and 70 total points and was tabbed preseason favorite for the second consecutive season.
Liberty concluded the 2014 season with a 12-10 overall mark, including a program best 5-3 Big South record. The Flames garnered the No. 3 seed for the Big South Men's Tennis Championship, the highest seed in program history. Liberty's season ended against the No. 6 seed Coastal Carolina in the Big South quarterfinals.
Presbyterian followed the Chanticleers in second place with three first-place votes and 66 points, just ahead of Campbell who collected 61 points. Winthrop received one first-place vote and 48 points which was good for fourth, three points ahead of the fifth-place Flames. In sixth with 43 points was Gardner-Webb, followed by Radford with 39 points and UNC Asheville with 19 points. Longwood rounds out the poll in ninth place with 14 points.
Liberty opens the 2015 schedule at the Sports Racket on Jan. 23 with a double header against James Madison at noon before turning around to play Morehead State at 6 p.m.
