A year removed from reaching the Big South Women's Tennis Championship semifinals for the second consecutive season, the Liberty Lady Flames have been predicted to finish fourth in the conference's 2015 preseason poll. Winthrop earned its 10th straight No. 1 preseason ranking with eight first-place votes and 97 overall points, which is voted on by the league's head coaches.
In 2014, Liberty posted a 15-9 record overall, including a program best 7-2 mark in conference play. The No. 3 seed Lady Flames knocked off No. 6 seed Radford in the quarterfinals of the Big South Championship, before falling to eventual tournament champion Winthrop in the semifinals.
Charleston Southern received two first-place votes and 90 points to claim second place in the poll. In third with 73 points was Coastal Carolina, followed by the Lady Flames with 72 points. Campbell landed in the No. 5 spot with 65 points, while Radford's 46 points garnered the No. 6 spot for the Highlanders. UNC Asheville was selected seventh with 40 points, while Gardner-Webb placed eighth with 33 points. Presbyterian (23 points) and Longwood (11 points) round out the poll in the ninth and tenth spot.
The Lady Flames open their spring season at the Sports Racket on Friday against Wofford College at 4 p.m. before squaring off against North Carolina Central at the Sports Racket on Sunday at noon.
