The Liberty softball team has returned to campus and has begun preparations for the 2015 campaign. Prior to Thursday's afternoon practice, Nick Pierce of the Liberty Flames Sports Network interviewed second-year head coach Dot Richardson.
The Lady Flames are gearing up for the 2015 season, which begins in Gulf Shores, Ala., on Feb. 6 against nationally-ranked South Alabama. Liberty's roster of 18 features an even split of returners and newcomers, as the team welcomes eight freshmen and junior college transfer Mickey Loveridge. All-Conference second baseman senior Megan Robinson returns after being named the first Academic All-American in program history in 2014. Senior catcher Kelby Allen is back after leading the team with nine homers and 34 RBI as a junior.
Liberty also will open the brand-new Liberty Softball Stadium this season, with the first game to be held on March 19 against Rider. Lynchburg softball fans will have plenty of opportunities to see the Lady Flames at the 1,000-seat stadium this season, with 23 scheduled home games, including doubleheaders against ACC foes Virginia and Virginia Tech.
