As the calendar winds down to the final days of 2014, the Liberty Flames Sports Network is looking back at the moments that made this athletics year special for Flames Nation.

The series continues today by looking at Moment No. 8, men's golf holding off Charleston Southern to win the program's third Big South title in the last four years.

The Flames entered the Big South Men's Golf Championship as the No. 1 seed and expected a showdown with No. 2 seed Radford, who finished the regular season ranked No. 84 in the country.

However, it was No. 5 seed Charleston Southern that gave the Flames their best for three days of play at The Patriot Golf Club in Ninety Six, S.C. The two teams saved their best team play until the final round where they were able to distance themselves from the rest of the 10-team field.

The Buccaneers continued to pressure the Flames deep into the final back nine holes until Liberty's Chase Marinell sealed Liberty's win. The 2014 Big South Men's Golfer of the Year sank a lengthy putt for birdie at the par-4, No. 14 hole. Three holes later, the senior drained a 30-footer for birdie at the par-3, No. 17 to give Liberty all the distance it would need to claim a five-stroke win over Charleston Southern.

The conference title, led by Liberty's senior class of Marinell, Niklas Lindstrom, Jacob Mast and Ian McConnell, gave Liberty three Big South titles during the senior class's four-year run. The Flames also qualified for their fourth-straight NCAA Men's Golf Regional with the victory.

The Liberty Flames Sports Network will continue to count down the Top 10 moments of 2014 when LibertyFlames.com reveals moment No. 7 on Tuesday.
