With the fall season complete, Liberty Lady Flames Field Hockey Head Coach Jodi Murphy sets her sights on the program's bright future. Despite the campaign coming to an end in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament, Murphy has had the chance to bask in the success of the 2014 season.
Liberty finished the season 14-8, leaving its mark nationally. On Nov. 11, the Lady Flames achieved a first in program history, ranking No. 20 in the nation according to the NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll. Along with the ranking, Liberty successfully upset then No. 4 Stanford on Nov. 8 to capture its second consecutive NorPac Championship and NCAA Tournament berth. The Lady Flames garnered their first NCAA tournament victory in just the program's fourth year of existence, defeating Richmond 3-1 on Nov. 12 at Liberty Field Hockey Field. Liberty then fought valiantly against No. 1 North Carolina on Nov. 15, falling 2-1 at Francis E. Henry Stadium in the Sweet 16.
Liberty Flames Sports Network's Alan York had a chance to catch up with Murphy to recap the success of the season, as well as the plans moving forward into the 2015 campaign.
