Gipe and Barr Twins Tabbed to NFHCA All-South Region Teams

After helping guide the Liberty Lady Flames to their second NCAA Tournament appearance in a row, field hockey standouts Sarah Gipe, Bethany Barr and Serena Barr have earned a place on the 2014 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-South Region second team each.

Gipe, making her first appearance on the All-Region squad, paced the Lady Flames and the NorPac Conference with 45 points and a program-tying 19 goals. The junior also added seven assists and three game-winning goals to add to her accomplishments this season. Through the most recent NCAA statistical report, the Greencastle, Pa. native ranked eighth in the nation in goals per game (0.86) and 13th in points per game (2.05).

Gipe notched three multiple-goal games this year, including her first career hat trick on Oct. 10 at Appalachian State. Gipe also earned a spot on this year's NorPac First Team All-Conference squad as well as the NorPac All-Tournament team. In the NorPac tournament, Gipe netted three goals and tallied one assist in two games, earning the spotlight as the NorPac Tournament MVP.

Bethany Barr turned in a strong sophomore campaign, starting in 15 of the team's 22 games this season. Barr netted a career best seven goals to go along with four assists in 2014. Barr finished third on the team in points with 18. The Lurgan, Northern Ireland native earned a spot on the NorPac First Team All-Conference squad. Barr also tallied one defensive save against No. 1 North Carolina on Oct. 19 at Liberty Field Hockey Field.

Serena Barr rounded out the Lady Flames honorees, making her first appearance on the All-South Region team. Barr finished the season with four goals, including her fourth multiple-goal game of her career on Oct. 5 against Appalachian State at Liberty Field Hockey Field. For the second straight season, the sophomore recorded nine assists, tying Ashlee Krulock for the most assists on the team. The Lurgan, Northern Ireland native also earned a spot on this year's NorPac First Team All-Conference squad.

Barr had her best performance in the NorPac tournament, earning a spot on the NorPac All-Tournament squad. Barr helped lead the Liberty defense to a 1-0 shutout against then No. 4 Stanford in the NorPac Championship.
