For the first time in program history, the Liberty Lady Flames field hockey squad is nationally ranked. According to the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I Coaches Poll released earlier this morning, Liberty is ranked No. 20 in the nation.
The Lady Flames are ranked thanks in large part to their recent performance. To close out the season, Liberty clinched the NorPac East Division title on Oct. 23 by upending Pacific, 5-1. The Lady Flames secured the 50th win in program history on Oct. 28, defeating Georgetown, 7-0.
Liberty moved past California in the NorPac semifinal game, 5-1, setting up a rematch of last year's NorPac title game with Stanford. The Lady Flames were up to the task, stunning the No. 4 Cardinal, 1-0, to win their second straight NorPac Championship.
Liberty received an automatic berth into the NCAA Championships following its upset win over Stanford. The Lady Flames were selected to host an NCAA Play-In game on Wednesday at 2 p.m. against Richmond. Liberty rides a four-game winning streak heading into Wednesday's game and holds a 13-7 overall record, while the Spiders come to Lynchburg with a 12-9 overall record after defeating Massachusetts, 1-0 in the Atlantic 10 Championship game.
